About me
Hello beautiful souls!
My name is Olha and I'm an artist behind FoxSowl.
It's hard to put myself in a few sentences but let's do it shortly.
I'm Ukrainian, biologist and molecular geneticist after University. I moved to the Netherlands in 2009 to do my PhD in microbiology and after finishing this page I quit. I gave up my hope in doing anything useful for planet and changing academic system.
And...I started to work as photographer. Making some specific real people happy was way more rewarding than trying to change the planet. And I still am a photographer.
But...at some point I started to make tiny pocket animal totems. First for myself as a hobby. Because I love nature, spend hell lots of time in nature and adore wild animals (except spiders). Then some friend asked if I would sell a figurine to her. And that's how the path started. For few years I made small animal figurines of polymer clay. I was receiving insane amount of emails, messages from people all over the world telling their life stories and how this tiny little animal helped them during certain life stages. Some were getting married, some lost their parents, kids, partners, some started to practice shamanism and so on. I was crying reading all those messages and feeling that jah, ok, maybe my life actually has the meaning, maybe I managed after all to change this planet... just a tiny bit at least.
But the artist inside was eager to learn and grow. I was thinking of ceramics for about 2 years but never had guts to start. Then I by accident got a very very old kiln and then the flow was not possible to stop. I bought clay, underglazes, glazes and started. I didn't take any classes. Everything, again, was learnt by myself. I was reading a lot, watching videos, reading again. And surrounded myself with books of fairy tales, old beliefs, shamanism, spiritualism, art, to get the ideas and to make my works meaningful. Step by step I'm walking this path. And thank you for being with me.
Olha
